Alright, I'm actually going to try and stick with a weekly blog post this year!!! We'll see how it goes I think i've ben saying this for at least 3 years now. Last year was a great year for me personally, but as far as racing goes, I think it was my worst year since I started triathlon. I was a bit unlucky with injuries, but upon reflection, I think I was lacking mentally, and this caused most of my problems. I still somehow managed to qualify for the ITU Long Course World Cahmpionships, which is taking place Nov 5th in Henderson Nevada. I am really looking forward to my opportunity to don the Canadian uniform and represent my country in competition. My plan is to focus on some early summer racing, take a couple of easy weeks towards the end of July, then start building for the big race in November. My goal is going to be to finish in the top ten in my age group, and to do that I will need to focus bigtime on my cycling. Although it is possibly my favorite sport of the 3, it has been by far my weakest discipline the last couple of years and I mean to rectify that this year with some good early season cycling focus. My running has improved every year for the last 4 years, so I am looking for that to continue this year, and my swimming has been good as well, so I will look to mostly maintain my swimming level while focusing on the bike. OK, so here's my 3 New Years resolutions for training:
#1: Ride lots, even if weather doesn't co-operate
#2: Sub 40 minute 10k run race. It has been a goal for awhile, time to nail it this year.
#3: Have fun with the sport again. Last year was so frustrating after having set some ambitious goals that I forgot I do this mainly for fun. It's time to get that feeling back.
Happy New Years everyone, and I hope to see you out there.
Cheers,
Mike
